The 2020 Acura RDX SH-AWD and 2020 BMW X3 xDrive 30i are two SUVs that are dedicated to turbocharged performance. Both define luxury with beautiful leather seats, interactive displays, woodgrain accents, and more, but with the recent redesign of the RDX, how does the X3 compare?
Straight out of the gate, with the complete redesign in 2019, the RDX has several advantages over the X3. Under the hood you will find a VTEC® Turbo 2.0-liter engine that boasts 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, giving you more power than the X3 and with the RDX’s paddle shifters, standard on all trim levels, you’ll have all 10 gear ratios right at your fingertips.
On the luxury side the RDX has a long list of standard features in it, to get the same kind of luxury amenities on the X3 you will be paying extra. Heated front sport seats with 12-way power adjustments. An ultra-wide panoramic moonroof. Are just a few of the standard features you can find on all RDX trim levels. Class-leading rear cargo space, and more legroom and shoulder room than the X3 you’ll have plenty of room for everyone to stretch out.
You can’t think sports car and not think BMW and the BMW X3 definitely puts the sport in sport utility vehicle. While the RDX has a top of the line engine under the hood, the X3 gives you options to up the SUV’s performance by offering some versatile options like the combination combustion engine and the electric motor inside the X3 xDrive30e, to the beastly TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder of the X3 M40i. BMW doesn’t stop at engine performance, they step up their game by reducing drag and optimizing aerodynamics with Side Air Breathers, the Active Kidney Grille, and Air Curtains.
Inside, the X3 has some top-notch features, a lot that you have to pay extra for, that combines performance with luxury. Never take your eyes off the road with an available full-color Head-up Display that projects your speed, the speed limit, navigation, and more right onto your windshield. Also, with the BMW Connected app you are able to monitor your X3 remotely from your phone through the available (again, something you might have to pay more for) Surround View with Remote 3D View.

In this case, what it comes down to is standards. The RDX has some premium features that set it apart from other luxury cars in its class, in the X3 those same features are options. Options that cost more money. Performance-wise, at the base level, the horsepower and torque numbers are pretty similar between the two with Acura coming out on top, but BMW’s X3 is more fuel-efficient. Bottomline the 2020 Acura RDX is luxurious and has better performance for your money while the 2020 BMW X3 to get to the same level of luxury and performance you have to spend more money. We may be a little biased but the picture is clear, the 2020 Acura RDX is the superior buy here.
